I love paddling, and my only regret is that I didn't try it sooner. I hear a lot of my fellow paddlers talking about paddling during the long distance season, and I want to go for it. Should I since I am just a novice paddler?

There are about nine major long distance races which begin in August, and end in October.
Paddling in a long distance season is a major commitment of time, energy, and financial resources. If you are in top physical condition, and you understand that there is no guarantee you'll "make crew" for all of the races, I can promise you that if you are given the opportunity to race in any long distance race, the memories will last a lifetime (you'll be practicing making "water changes" real soon, it's a blast!).
Pray on it, listen to GOD's answer, talk to the veteran paddlers in the club, and most importantly, make sure your ohana is solid and a part of each race you compete in ("One Team"). Paddling will always be there, and it should not be an excuse to escape from our responsibilities at home.
Lastly, start saving now. If you should make crew for all of the long distance races, your expenses could easily exceed $1,000. A friend of mine paid all of his long distance expenses last year by collecting and redeeming cans gathered from family and friends.
Good questions all Ted, u 'go geev' um' this weekend at Nanakuli, and have a very Happy Father's Day too!
Paddling is truly a gift from GOD, and we are so fortunate to live in such a beautiful and healing place such as this.

The Akana Ohana was whisked away yesterday to Canada for a ski trip, while Ty and the Extreme Makeover Home Edition demolished their home and Keiki O Ka Aina Preschool.

"The Green Paddler"
Paddlers around the state have been gathering up cans, bottles, and plastics in order to generate revenue to purchase canoes, paddles, paddling gear, and to defray race entry fees all year long. What a great way to protect our Eco-system here in Hawai'i, and keep paddling affordable at the same time!
With gas prices topping $4 a gallon in California today, some of that recyclable cash will likely help pay for gas to get to and from paddling practice as well!
Collect cans and bottles from family and friends, and redeem them at a recycle station like the one opposite Charlie's Shop on Puuhale Street. You plop your bag(s) of separated recyclables on the the scale, get paid, and pau. They have those upright machines which accept a can at a time too, but it takes longer then just weighing it which is much faster.
Comments on additional sources and opportunities of earning income, to offset personal paddling expenses are most welcome and greatly appreciated!
You've called us with some really cool ones already including selling stuff on ebay, Jamba Juice Coupons/Mugs, and Zippy's chili tickets.

Congratulations to the graduates of the intensive 2nd Annual New Hope Canoe Club Ministry Medical Response Team CPR/AED Training Class of 2007, which was conducted this past Sunday by our expert instructors Ms. Pam West and Mr. Ed Martin.
Receiving their official two-year certifications in CPR & AED were ~ Rhonda, Quyen, Kehau, Kalani, Joel, Maria, Dove, Bernie, Burt. and George.
Refresher course graduates were ~ Garrett, Monique, Charmaine, Tammi, Darwin, and Eric.
Special thanks to MRT Leader Dr. Jon Ruckle for coordinating this event, and for allowing us to train at his first class medical facility, and a very big mahalo to Rhonda Suzuki for as siting Dr. Jon, and for providing a sumptuous lunch, snacks, and refreshments for all of the participants to enjoy.
Thank you all for the generous gift of your time and energy.

...seeing so many friends turn out to help carry and trailer our canoes to the paddling site, in preparation for the start of paddling practice which begins on Tuesday, March 27th.
To the eighteen paddlers who turned out to help, Udabest! Mahalo, we couldn't have done it without you.
When practice begins, we will have 78 seats available for new and returning paddlers at each practice session! We have been truly blessed to have so many tip top canoes to practice and race in all year long.
Let's share our blessing and fill each and every seat this year by extending an invite to family members and friends to join us on the water this year.

We are just about a month away from our annual orientation meeting.
This is a great time to talk to family, friends and anyone else interested in paddling this year about our New Hope Canoe Club Ministry and its new season.
If you know of anyone interested in competitive or recreational paddling, please invite them to our orientation meeting scheduled for Sunday, March 18 from 1:30 - 2:30PM, with registration sign-ups from 2:30 - 3:00 PM at the New Hope Christian Fellowship O'ahu Lead Center on Sand Island Access Road.

"Let The Paddling Season Begin!"
Aloha!Since our canoe club's website www.newhopecanoeclub.org is under construction, we've created this blog to fill the void for the time being as the 2007 paddling season is fast approaching. There is already news to share with you (returning and new paddlers).
Maintaining a website takes a lot of time and energy. Hopefully, this blog will bring information to you a little faster, and we'll do our best to keep it about our love for Jesus Christ, and the gems He gives to us which is the Pacific Ocean, and Hawaiian Outrigger Canoe Paddling.
Well, we're off to find a broom to tidy up the reactivated NHCCM Cyber Kanu (formerly "Web" now "Blog") Crew HQ (circa 2004), and start compiling some 411 to you A.S.A.P.
