"Thank You"
Dear Canoe Ministry,
On behalf of the Na 'Opio youth group, I'd like to thank everyone for their servant hearts and participation in celebrating our youth's first race of the season.
Many hands and hearts were supported and encouraged our children! With 5 crews, all the kids raced. One youth raced with another club and won 2nd place!
God is good ~ good weather, calm ocean... all the steersmen and women delight in the conditions, Jiana Moniz, Alana Ogitani, Sean Mahone, and Monica Benson, all first time steerspeople. Jerika Moniz ~ piece of cake! Monica Benson raced again with the 18-mix crew.
Our 12s braved their near huli, the huli our 16 girls recovered... within seconds and raced to the finish!
Our 16 boys 'uni on the turn, our 15 girls finished well and our 18-mix with a 14 and 15 year old accomplished much.
Thank you to the coaches who work well with our youth ~ Coaches Audra, Bernie, Charmaine, Colleen and Mark. Great job!
Thank you to the families who bring their kids to practice and support them at the race!
With much love,
Coach Chris

"Thank You Lord"
Thank You Lord,
For bringing all of the paddlers in yesterday's race home safely,
and for another beautiful Hawaiian day.
Amen
Congratulations to all four of our crews who competed and successfully completed yesterday's 9th Annual Kala'iomalulani Canoe Races, especially our long course open kane crew that endured and took third place in their division!
Our 50's mix crew took second place in their division in the short course race.
A big mahalo to race organizer Keahiakahoe Canoe Club. The Hawaiian food after the race was pau was terrific!
Very special thanks to Charlie, Blane, Cy, Clayton, and Sam for all of the pre-coordination, tying down, and the trailering of our canoes to three different locations in one day!
Our Na 'Opio paddlers will be competing for the first time in the 13th Annual George Perry Memorial Na Keiki O Na Wa’a Race this Saturday, May 17, 2008, at Kailua Beach Park.
The race is sponsored by the Lanikai Canoe Club, and will be a great opportunity for our kids to compete in a race before our regatta season starts next month.
Let's all support our young men and women by pitching in to make this race a fun and memorable experience for all.
The boat weighing/water lining of our new canoe is back on for Sunday, May 18, 2008, 7:00 AM, at Ala Moana Beach Park, we'll meet on the Diamond Head Side of the Koa Kai Paddling Site.
Ten to twelve paddlers are needed to unload and help place the canoe in the placid Ala Moana Park Pond. If enough muscle arrives on time, we'll be done by 7:30 AM.
Stay Safe, Stay Strong,
-Uncle Hut

"Race Reference Points & Happy Mother's Day!"

We hope that these photos, videos, and map help our short course (6 miles) racers who are unfamiliar with these Windward Side reference points locate them a little more easily. Its the first time our club is entering this race, and traffic is expected to be heavy in and around the roads leading to and from the start and finish areas.
Best bet, have someone drop you off at He'eia Kea Pier at 7:00 AM. Your canoes will be dropped off nlt 7:30 AM. Hands are needed to unload and prepare the canoes for the race.
Thereafter, have your ride park on Waihee Road which is across the street from where the canoes will finish (the Keahiakahoe Paddling Site). They can walk over to see you finish, and this is also where we will load and prepare all of our canoes for the trip back over the Koolaus.
Our shuttle driver made crew, so if you do have to park on Waihee Road yourself, look for the Keahiakahoe Canoe Club shuttle drivers on Waihee Road, or right across the street at their paddling site for a ride to He'eia Kea Pier.
Have a great race! Have a great practice and REC/Na 'Opio Brunch On The Beach/Family Day back at Sand Island.
Most importantly, thank you Moms, we love you all!

Hi Racers, in tomorrow's...
Hi Racers, in tomorrow's pre-season ____ race at Keihi(?) Lagoon. It's very hot during the race that's gonna be either an hour or an hour and a half. Please make sure you hydrate properly, and bring some type of water hydration pouch or(?) even during the race so you don't succumb to a heat related injury. There was one last week at our pre-season race. Somebody had to get taken to the hospital. So, please hydrate adequately. It's a short race, it doesn't mean it's, shortened distance perhaps but not in the length of duration which is about an hour for the short race. So please hydrate properly, sun screen, cap, and you can avoid being a heat casualty. Thank you. listen

"What A Night!"

The music, food, and fellowship at last night's Argentina Mission Fundraiser was incredible.
Please continue to support our missionaries as they prepare to bring New Hope to brothers and sisters in a faraway place.
Tiffany Thurston was one of the headliners last night at the L.E.A.D. Center. Her voice is mesmerizing, really an incredible talent.
